Update

Hey guys! Sorry for the lack of updates lately. I just moved into my college dorm today so as you can imagine, its been a pretty hectic weekend. I also wanted to let you know about the future of this blog. Since Im in school now my main focus will obviously be my academics but Ill try to update daily; also I dont know how much activity I can use on this  blog because the internet network im connected to at my school tracks downloads and illegal material, so you can imagine what state that puts me in. I know it sucks for you but it also does for me to cuz i really dont think i can stop what im doing in bringing you guys the latest media. I just dont know what my restrictions and consequences will be if i continue to do so. Ill still try to update as much as i can for now but we'll see where that takes me. Feel free to give advice in the comments cuz im really torn in this situation.
thanks,
matt

EDIT:
thanks for all the encouraging comments guys! it really means a lot. Let me try to explain the situation a little more clearer since im learning more about it every day. The school sets every computer that uses their internet system on a security line. The line monitors everything we do, not necessarily by the school, but by something like the RIAA. If i download a new song for album they could catch that and alert my school. If i get caught, i need to sign a form to not do it again, AND my music library is search for any illegal downloads that i cannot prove are mine. Since i cant claim ownership to most of the songs they would probably be taken away, which sucks. Im hating this as much as you guys cuz even im crippled in what i can download for just myself. Im still trying to decide on the future of the blog and will let you know.
thanks again
-matt

Hey Matt! I love your blog! I really liked it when you put up the studio versions of American Idol (or anything related to Idol such as Carrie and Jordin)

But I wouldn't want you to get in trouble and risk your college integrity. I heard about people getting caught for doing this, and they had to pay a hefty price to the RIAA.

However, if you love your devoted fans, you should do whatever you think it's best. Again, I wouldn't want you to risk anything, academics are VERY important.

It's up to you though!

I hope everything goes well for you! Good luck!! :)

yeah man, this is a great site. i live in a dorm too so it's kinda hard with campus internet watching your every move to download/post shit like that. i understand your decision but i'd hate to see you go!

Matt, we still love you and wish you the best of luck. Peace.

my college doesn't allow illegal downloading either. if they catch you just once they disconnect your internet.

what you do: go to some coffee shop or somewhere off campus with wi-fi, and go from there. it's untraceable.

at my school if you get caught then you have to sign a contract stating that you wont download illegal media and crap like that and shut off your internet for like some days. But getting caught the second time is a worse punishment... so be careful.

aww, matt. :( take it easy, you've already done SO MUCH for us, i honestly don't mind if you need to put the downloads on hold.

i mean, hey. college is important.

good luck at school!!!

find out what the restrictions are where you go... sometimes, they'll just send you a warning or whatever... and, also it could depend on the QUANTITY downloaded... in other words, unless you were sued by the RIAA or whatever (Which could happen anywhere), the only way the campus would bother you is if YOU are downloading and uploading a lot of stuff... but if it's just a song here a video there, it shouldn't make them notice anything!

good luck with school. your blog is great!

PeerGuardian2, would that help you? http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/ Since it blocks schools, gov, etc from knowing exactly what you are downloading. I used to think it was only for peer 2 peer/torrent etc, but I found it it has a million different blocks that work even while you are just surfing. Could be useful..idk. Ah, but maybe there is some kind of override they have in effect at your school. It's not like when you are doing it out of your own home. Or, even if it worked, by virtue of the school not being able to see exactly what you are doing, maybe they would immediately assume you ARE guilty. I'm sorry I'm no help. Good luck. And thank you for everything. :) *hugs*

Hey Matt, I visit your site daily and what a great blog you have! As a blogger I know how you feel about this situation, because I know how blogging becomes in such a fascinating hobby.

So I wish you the best in college but I also encourage you to never give up on your dreams and your passions. I believe that nothing is impossible. There must be a way so you can keep posting new songs and working on your blog. Someone says something about a coffee shop.. maybe it exits some program that you can use to avoid being monitored by your school. there must be a solution! we need ideas people! we need to help matt! =(

Anyway, I'm here to help, so anything you need please let me know.

I'd be willing to contribute to the site with some stuff. I'd be sort of like a part-time maintainer or something. I love this blog too much for it to end :)

You've made this blog a religion for some people hahaha

Be careful...my cousin has to pay $3000. They mostly go after people using P2P programs though.

Anonymous said...

They look for people who use p2p programs like limewire, etc. they put up the media and then see who downloads it, that's how they get your info. if they don't know to track leaked media via rapidshare, zshare, blogs, etc - they can't track who's downloading it because they don't know where it's available for download.

Do what suit you best. There are literally hundreds of blogs out there covering the same thing as you do. Worry not.

Don't worry, I'm sure you'll find a way to get your new songs for yourself, don't worry about us, we'll just waddle along and find other sites. We won't forget what you've done for us Matt!

Till you get back on the blog
